Supplements, are they worth the money?

Hi there,

Depending on who you speak to, you will get varying opinions about gym supplements. Do they actually work? Do they REALLY build muscle and strength the way the adverts promise?

In order to avoid spending excessive amounts on supplements it is vital that you know the basics about supplements🏃‍♂️. Here are three points to understand before we move onto the different types of supplements you can get today.

Let’s keep in mind that although supplements may be helpful in meeting daily macronutrient or vitamin goals, real food should be prioritized over supplements, we get many needed vitamins and minerals from a healthy balanced diet⚡.

Supplements are not drugs

Performance enhancing drugs such as amphetamines and anabolic steroids are not supplements. As it says in the name, these are drugs. Supplements are normally just food or vitamins and nutrients you can get in food💪. Protein supplements will not cause you to fail a drug test. This may seem obvious, but you would be surprised how many questions I get on this subject!

Supplements are food

If you are going to take a protein supplement when you are eating a whole cow every day you will be wasting your money.  If you’re eating a well balanced diet with a variety of foods, you probably won’t need to supplement any vitamins. Additionally, if you are full of energy and love a strong coffee before killing arms, then a pre- workout will just be an expensive way of disturbing your sleep🧨. Do not get sucked into marketing. If you don’t need them, then don’t take them.

Supplements are expensive

Unless you are a sponsored athlete you will find that bodybuilding/training is expensive enough with the amount of money spent on food (and hopefully bigger/smaller clothes depending on your goal).. Supplementing food with all the latest and greatest products may not be the smartest financial move. Only supplement if totally necessary.. Some supplements may help you achieve your goals a bit faster or easier🏅, but they are never required to build an incredible physique.
