The Weekly Scoop

I thought I’d try combining some of my thoughts about eating right with some other more general ideas, let me know what you think!

I’ll start off with what I believe are some of the worst eating habits:

Eating out of boredom

This is a common one, which most people suffer with. To avoid this, try and stay busy around the house. This keeps your mind focused on other things, which in turn should help direct you away from the local cookie jar!

Ordering out instead of cooking

Again, this will fall down to convenience and effort levels. Every person is guilty of this! There are more ways to reduce this bad habit than you think.

A great way to avoid this bad habit is by cooking a variety of meals in advance. So whenever your hunger demons start to wake, you can keep them at bay with a nutritious meal.

Skipping breakfast

Skipping breakfast is something many people do. The thought process behind it is that it’s less calories to be consumed, therefore they must be losing weight, right?
Wrong.
It can have an adverse effect by increasing your hunger levels by not eating a well-balanced meal, at the start of your day. This is when the savory-sweet devil starts knocking on the mental door. Trying to tempt you with snacks, inevitably it becomes hard to resist.

Caffeine Affirmations

One person who has been making strides through social media that you may have come across is Andrew Huberman. He’s a neuroscientist (my college major!!) out of Stanford. He has many teachings on optimizing life. One of my favorite things that I’ve learned from him is to not have caffeine until about an hour and a half after waking up. This will make the caffeine more effective and prevent the afternoon crash. Check him out!

Caffeine & Co.

On a similar note, I’ve been loving pairing caffeine with theanine for energy and focus. The caffeine clearly stimulates you and gives energy, but the theanine is a naturally occurring protein in my many teas that calms down the overstimulating effects of too much caffeine. Give it a try! I like 200 mg caffeine with 200 mg theanine.

I’ve recently started a discord server for medical students, we’re talking side hustles right now (you don’t want to miss out)

As a parting message, I think it’s interesting that as it gets colder here in Chicago, I find myself more motivated to get into the gym. My theory is that I fell off track a bit with the hecticness of the first real post-pandemic summer and now I want to get back on the horse!
How does your motivation change with the weather? I’d love to hear about it!

 Thanks as always,
